animas Oxbow
The Animas River flows towards Durango through v-shaped gorges slicing through the San Juan Mountains. When the river enters the Animas Valley, the ground flattens and begins to meander. At the Oxbow Preserve, the river U-turns back on itself in tight ribbon-like swirls. Dramatic red cliffs frame the eastern side of the valley. In this drawing, these cliffs are reflected onto the slow-moving Animas River.
