Wild grass along the animas
Along the Animas south of town, there is a cove along the river where ducks frequently gather in the calm waters. Last year, I was fascinated by a mother duck with 13 ducklings swimming behind her. Eventually, after heavy rains and flooding, I encountered a solo duckling who had been separated from the rest. In the following days I found the creature swimming with geese; forging a new path down the river.
